WBZ Moves
By Michael Page | January 24, 2010
Alana Gomez Dong joined WBZ-TV as a general assignment reporter last Monday. Prior to joining WBZ-TV, Alana worked at KPRC-TV in Houston, Texas.
Also at WBZ, it was announced that today was Dawn Hasbrouck’s last day at the station. Dawn will be returning to her native Chicago to serve as the co-anchor of WFLD-TV’s Noon newscast beginning February 15.

i wonder who will be replacing dawn on weekend mornings

I noticed Alana reporting the other day, but figured she was just freelancing at the time.
Good luck to Dawn wherever she’s headed.

Dawn has been a real pleasure to watch over the past couple of years. She is a real professional & delivers the news so calmly and effortlessly.
Good luck to Dawn

Alana is part of the two-year development program which seeks qualified journalists to increase diversity in the newsroom. (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/08/03/broadcasts/main633770.shtml).
Paul Burton came to WBZ under the same program.

Tough to see dawn go yesterday…she was pretty cheerful in the mornings….Dawn and Melissa were a good pair.

Interesting…I didn’t know CBS had a reverse discrimination program. Now I know not to watch anymore.

Unrelated topic… but there’s no place to post a topic on this site. What was the fall out from Pete Bouchard’s completely inappropriate and creepy snow-total comment?
January 26th, 2010 at 1:41 pm
No problem, it came up under another post as well.
The station, at least in the Herald article I read, says Pete was talking about his height on his monitor. Apparently he looked big on his screen, and WHDH says he was trying to indicate that to the camera operator.
Of course this has been making the rounds on the web as one of the better bloopers as of late.

According to this http://www.eworldnewz.com/dawn-hasbrouck-taking-some-time-off-471.html Dawn is taking maternity leave, but she did not look pg to me.
January 27th, 2010 at 1:28 pm
I wouldn’t trust that site. It looks like it just pulls random posts off the internet. I think the maternity leave post you linked to was actually from a while back…when she did go on maternity leave. Also, I believe she made reference to moving to a new city on her last broadcast. Maybe someone who was watching could verify that?
This is from Dawn’s twitter account: “Working at WBZ has been a blast. My thanks to the award-winning photogs and behind-the-scenes weekend staff who made it all fun.”

According to a release on the WFLD website, Dawn will be co-anchoring the Fox Chicago News at Noon beginning 2/15. Also in the release it says she is a native of Chicago and glad to be headed home. Best of luck to Dawn.

I just found this…Dawn is head to chicago

Thanks for finding that info, Joe and Marky.

So who, pray tell, will hold down the BZ Weekend AM slot? It is less than 48 hrs away and no announcement? Or did I miss it?
Thanks to all the posters here and to Michael Page for his efforts.

No indication yet, but more as I get it.

Good looks plus lightweight experience plus diversity equals new WBZ TV news reporter in Boston. How about a new forumla: good looks plus loads of substantive broadcast reporting experience plus ethnicity equal value to the viewer.

Before this, Dawn was at WFSB in Connecicut as a weekday morning anchor, but I wish for the best of luck at Fox News Chicago.

sera congi was anchoring the news this morning on wbz. wonder if she will be anchoring it full time on weekend mornings

Theoretical question here: If an inexperienced journalist reports for WBZ morning news, does she make a noise?
While WBZ has been taking advantage of CBS’ strong prime-time lead-ins, they’re really sucking wind in the mornings. Friday for example, WBZ was fourth-place at 5am and 6am. Their .83 5am rating nearly landed them in 5th place behind WMUR!!!
I’m “curious” why no one is watching

It is time for Paula Ebben to go.Make her a consumer reporter.

I realize this question isn’t related to this story, but I wanted to keep it at the top of the page. When is Doug Meehan supposed to be leaving FXT? It was mentioned several weeks ago that he would depart soon, yet I flipped by the other day and was surprised to still see him reporting on traffic.
