Randy Interviews with 5

Yes, it is true; Randy Price interviewed at WCVB-TV today.
I should be quick to point out that this doesn’t guarantee that Randy will make a return to the airways, however. The station said that “We have had many qualified candidates come in” to interview for the open position Randy interviewed for. Still, it is something to keep an eye out for.
Remember that Price parted ways with WHDH earlier this year, stunning most Bostonians.

Is the “open position” the eyeopener? Are they finally realizing they can’t have a weather guy doing the news.

Good question…I don’t have the answer either. There have been rumblings about the morning for a while now, so only time will tell.

I hope it works out for him. He seems like a very genuine person and really wasn’t plastic enough to be on 7.

I hope Randy does get hired over at WCVB. I miss Randy and think that he was such a good anchor! It was 7 who lost out.

There are never any guarentees in life. But really… what is channel 5 supposed to say?

Is it me or this isn’t getting a lot of attention like the previous stories on Randy or Brandon Rudat. It almost seems like an afterthought

they piece in the globe said that the open position was the one jim boyd left. the midday anchor and early evening reporter!

It seems like people have lost interest in Randi Price. It’s all about WBZ these days at 11.

All about WBZ? Really?
WBZ has pretty nice numbers at 11pm… but they also have the best network lead-in. They LOSE more late news audience than any station. WHDH and WCVB gain audience.
WBZ is 3rd place at 5am… 4th place at 6am.. and while they’re in 2nd at 5p, they again have a good Judge Judy lead-in, from which they drop.
Look a little closer. Not as pretty as they first appear.

In an ideal world, Price teams up with Bianca for the Eyeopener, with Brown being shifted back to weather (he can fill the spot vacated by the retired Dick Albert). Not only would CVB win the mornings, but Randy would be returning to his roots, having co-anchored the BZ morning news with Linda Harris back in the 80′s.

I hope Randy gets the job. I stopped watching 7 completely when I learned the true story of his departure from there, I thought that was just skeevy.
Since Randy actually lives up in Portland, Maine, I was wondering if he’d take a job at one of the stations up there. But if he can get back into the Boston news market, more power to him! If he gets hired by 5, I’ll watch!

I LOVE Randy Price. He is THE reason we watched ch. 7.
He is THE reason WHY we stopped watching. (as they were SO stupid to let Randy go).
I’ve heard Ch. 7 has become a circus – Kim , Frances , Sorbonni are like rotating bitter hasbeens.
Unbearable.
Lauren P. is underused and under-appreciated !
Ch. 5 should hire Lauren with Randy .
They are two fabulously professional people who are also very easy on the eyes !

Although im not a big fan of Randy Price i do think he does a great job i agree with others here something BADLY needs to be done with David Brown he just does”not have what it takes to be a Newscaster i think Bianca does a great Job she makes the morning news brighter i wish Randy the best as this is a difficult time to be out of work

I agree that David brings nothing to the anchor desk. Bianca is terrific. I love Randy and they would make a good team. Also Ed Harding needs to go away too – he is very annoying.

I miss Caterina the most, with Randy.
But she’s a very good Mom for choosing to stay home with her beautiful children

I am predicting after Randy Price had the recent interview at Channel 5 that if he does accept the job he will replace David Brown at Channel 5. I believe that Randy Price is a more qualified news person than David Brown. Is Channel 5 planning to interview Scott Whale of Hingham anytime soon?

Forgive this re-post from my own site, but I hope it will contribute to the discussion here as well.
The thing about this turn of events is that it may disprove the theory of personalities not being “draws” for viewers anymore. If you go over to the General thread (on BTVN’s boars – click my name above), you’ll see I’ve YouTubed the “Beat the Press” discussion involving the 4/25 link-up, and the stories involving Liz and Randy. One of the panellists (I forget whom) makes the point that while putting Liz in the Chronicle timeslot may be a good way of viewers “accidentally” finding her, only doing the show four times a year will likely mean that folks won’t know when it’s on.
Conversely, with Randy, (and this is my own point now), the May sweeps figures show 5 only 3-5k viewers behind 7 throughout the period, which suggests to me that bringing in an almost universally well-liked broadcaster like Randy could, in and of itself, make the necessary difference to their numbers. There’s not many people you can say that about, but reports of the death of the personality-driven local newscast may yet prove premature.

I Think News Center 5 Is the best for local news and I think adding Randy to 5 we make 5 the best in Boston and all other local news channel will not ever get to 5

I think Randy would go to the Noon news only to co-anchor with Susan. Possibly some feature stuff too. Last I knew he was looking to go back into television but not taking on a lot. He has so many causes that he wants to do work for.

According to Newsblues he has been hired to replace Jim Boyd. BTVN will also have an exclusive interview with Randy.

Yeah, everyone is scratching their head at the Boyd thing, unless David Brown was never officially his replacement.
I’ve posted further exclusive details (including the leaked press release) over at BTVN. I hope Mike will be magnanimous in allowing me to share it. The bulk of the info is on our forums, which do require registration, but should be well worth a minute of your time.

I personally will miss David Browns reporting, I couldn’t believe how smoothly he goes from one subject to another, and what a great transition he made from weather to Anchor, He did a wonderful job, and I hope someone will pick him up for his reporting skills.Good Luck David.

So, what will happen to David Brown? They just let him go and nothing to us. I agree he was a bit goofy at first but he became part of the family and I will miss him. I however am not crazy about Bianca. I have noticed that she has calmed down her appearance a bit which was to flashy at first. I am sure over time she will also become part of the family. I like Randy he is like watching an old friend. I have been watching channel 5 since Nat and Chet. I think channel 5 viewers like the natural comfortable feel of the newscasters.

He is reporting and doing fill in weather for channel 5 now.
