DTV Delay

By Michael Page | February 9, 2009

Earlier this month the President and Congress delayed the national transition to all digital TV. The transition, which had been scheduled to take place later this month, will now occur on or by June 12. Here in Boston, WBZ and WCVB both say they will delay the switch as recommended by the government. The FCC reports that WHDH will also delay the switch, and WFXT has been having all sorts of signal problems as of late, basically forcing them to go digital early. WZMY went digital back in December.

The bottom line is, if you are not DTV ready, GET ready. We have had all kinds of warning for this, so I have little sympathy for those who still are not ready.

Topics: National, WBZ (Channel 4), WCVB (Channel 5), WFXT (Channel 25), WHDH (Channel 7), WLVI (Channel 56), WSBK (Channel 38), WZMY | 5 Comments »

No sympathy here, either. I’m just annoyed that now we’ll have to see those commercials for the next four months.

Don’t worry folks…government-run health care is MUCH less complex and will run a whole lot smoother. Promise.

President Obama has yet to sign the bill into law and is taking public comment. I urge everyone to send their thoughts in at the following link.

I think that many viewers will see the transition to digital broadcasting as an opportunity to give up on television all together. They won’t bother to procure a converter box or a digital TV set.

The Vermont market is going forth with the original switch date for next Tuesday. WCAX in Burlington (cbs station) says that a lot of money and preparation went into the process to get ready for the switch. I don’t blame them at all. If I were preparing for something for so long, I would want to make sure it happens.

Btw, while I was home last weekend, I caught a few ‘BZ newscasts and it was REFRESHING to watch Boston news again. No offense to the Vermont market but the presentation of the news is sooo bland.
