Morelli Done at WCVB
By Michael Page | February 8, 2009
Jim Morelli, who has been a reporter at WCVB for 5 years, was told by station management Friday that he is out of a job. The termination becomes effective on April 7. Jim tells me, “For me, far greater than the loss of income, will be the lost opportunity to spend my working hours with the many friends I’ve made at Channel 5. That is what will stand out for me when I look back on these five years: the wonderful friendships.”
Meanwhile, some of you have been inquiring about Jarrod Holbrook who was seen doing reports this week on channel 5. I am told he is just freelancing at this point.

Sorry to hear the news. I always liked his work.
Michael, was this a money thing as to why he was let go? Since I am not in the business, I am just curious how the bosses come up with these decisions.

Just came across the site… great information, though sad to see another reporter laid off. I’ll post a link on my site and add you to my local tv blogroll.
Best,
Mark

Quinn: No reason was discussed, so I don’t have much of an answer for you.
Mark: Thanks, I will link to you as well.

I don’t know why but I never felt like he fit at the station, Nothing to do with him as a journalist though. This is a sad loss, I wonder how many more people will be laid off.

This gives the station the opportunity to hire a young, perky, female or male counterparte to compete with the band of young and incompetent reporters trying to ddelvier the news at WHDH. Why is it that a mature looking and soundng reporter, maybe with a bit of well trimed facial hair, can’t succed in the Boston market. Lets not forget Charlie Gibson who is surpassing the other anchors toward a rating high, or Chuck Todd, the new NBC News White House reporter with gotee. In stead, we have a cast of soap opera lookalikes who act more like celebrities than news houds flodding the local airways. Enough. Real quality and experience equals value to the viewer.
