Briggs at FOX

By Michael Page | April 6, 2008

FOX25Just a few months after leaving WHDH, Dave Briggs turned up on WFXT last night. When he left 7, Dave started working with Comcast SportsNet, so this new FOX gig is likely just some filling in.

Ryan Asselta just became a new daddy so Dave is probably just freelancing for a short while.

I saw Dave Briggs on FOX 25 for the first time the last 2 nights. It seems like yesterday that he was at Channel 7. Is Dave Briggs only at Fox 25 as a freelancer or is he looking into WBZ-TV 4 as well when Bob Lobel leaves the station?

He is likely there freelancing; in terms of WBZ, it seems that Steve Burton will be taking Lobel’s place.

Steve Burton should have been the one let go. I think it should be Dan Roache on the weekdays (which i know will not happen becuase of his schedule) and Alice Cook on the weekends.

I like Dan Roche; he’s good at what he does. I don’t feel nearly the same about Steve Burton. Sadly, he isn’t going anywhere because I think he feels a sense of entitlement in getting the top spot at WBZ and will probably last at least as long at the station as Lobel did.

It seems that Steve Burton has a good rapport with many football players, and Dan Roche has great rapport with all professional athletes, especially the Red Sox players.

During the on-field celebrations and live locker room interviews Dan always gets good responses. I think many of the pros actually like Dan and trust him — it seems to come across that way.

Question: With the day of the high priced anchors now gone — what do these journeymen and women anchors make? $40, $50, $60 thousand a year, or are they flying in the area of $100K or more?

With a new batch of eager, good looking, and competent media types graduating from Emerson College every year is the market soft to the tune of $25 to $40 thousand a year as the top paycheck for an on air reporter?

Inquiring minds want to know what you think of the pay scale of Boston news reporters and anchors.

Now a radio reporter, former tv reporter, tells me that reporters make somewhere in the tune of 40-80K and that is as well as weekend anchors who dont make much more but the weekday anchors of a station make close to 120-160K a year…from what i hear

The collapse of the high salaries was bound to happen when the supposed inarguable linkage between a ‘top-flight’ anchor and ratings was proven to be a laughable charade. The real inarguable linkage is what’s happening now and what’s happening to Katie Couric. Her problems simply popped the whole notion that high-priced anchors–>ratings. Can you imagine some anchor or agent trying to pitch that value proposition now? They’d be laughed out the building in a nanosecond. It’s about time.

Even $80,000 does not seem like a large salary for a reporter at a major market television station. What are the AFTRA minimums for such work?

Speaking of unions, I read that Channel 25′s technicians have joined IBEW. That is one station that needs a union.

I thought that some of these anchors were making $200? in the Boston market?

News that makes your jaw hit the floor… Briggs will guest anchor “Fox & Friends” on Fox News this weekend. I should hasten to add it’s NOT a permanent gig or even an indication that he’s been hired by FNC. Just… wow!

I THINK THE ANCHORS WHO BEEN IN BOSTON THE LONGEST TIME MAKE TOP MONEY

I disagree wholeheartedly about Dan Roche. He has very distracting mannerisms, very unprofessional, and he is hard to look at.
