Weather Help Arrives

By Michael Page | October 10, 2007

After being short handed in the weather department following the departure of Melissa Bell, WBZ has hired a new weekend meteorologist.

Todd Gutner will arrive at the station on Monday October 29, but will have his first day on air on Saturday November 3. He will work the 6 and 11 PM shifts.

Todd comes to Boston from WCSH-TV in Portland.

Portland Maine or Portland Oregon? What a wonderful smile he has. :) I bet someone was tickeling him from behind, when that picture was taken.

Todd is truly a professional. He’s one of the best Maine meteorologists. It will be great having him on 4.

BTW – Michael, he uses weather watchers quite often (or, at least did in Portland) so hopefully we’ll be on 4 a lot :) !

Never mind he is taken according to his old news channel website. Why is New England area so hard to find single men?

You guys missed this story: Broadcast Clues, about WHDH’s Hank Phillipi Ryan.
It was in The Globe on Monday. Now we know her real name isn’t Hank.

If the station had been in Portland, Ore., the call letters would have started with a “K.” BTW – is Shelby Scott still living in the Boston area? She came to Boston from Seattle back in the 1960′s.

Have I missed it? Are NE’s meteorologists talking about the weather paradigm we are experiencing? Climatologists claim this is the future now – drought like conditions in the fall, flood-like rains in the spring. Net result will be more bugs (the giant wasp is coming), less colorful falls, and a huge decline in maple syrup.

I agree. I think news departments in general should do more to highlight local changes due to climate.
