Harding Named Evening Anchor
By Michael Page | February 6, 2007
WCVB came out with a big announcement today. They have named Ed Harding the co-anchor of all early and late evening newscasts. He will now co-anchor the 5 PM, 5:30 PM and 11 PM shows. Channel 5 has confirmed for me that Ed will also be co-anchoring the 6:00 PM news.
You will remember that for the past few years, he has co-anchored the morning Eyeopener programs, as well as the 11 PM show.
The former co-anchor at 5/5:30, Anthony Everett, will move full time to Chronicle. For the past year he has been on the nightly program in addition to his regular news duties.
The new changes will take effect on March 26. A new co-anchor for the morning shifts has not been announced.

Great. Mr. ‘Jut-Jaw’ gains the keys to the castle. He must have a following, but I can’t fathom why. He has such an aloof, ‘It’s all about me’ attitude, feeling the need to point–yes, point–to things we can clearly see for ourselves on the plasma behind him. Our hand doesn’t need to be held, ED, thank you anyway.

LOL my thoughts exactly. I am not a fan of Ed, the pointing does drive me nuts too.
With him potentially moving in at 6, I have to wonder how much longer Nat will stick around…seems odd to have her flying solo, then bring someone else in. Maybe they are going to work Ed into 6 and work Nat out. Who knows?? We will have to wait and see.

Well, there are thoughts that Nat is no fan of Ed’s (gee, maybe I’m not in left-field with my observations) and that maybe this will force her hand like you say. I am astounded (wait…let me do it the way Ed would: ASTOUNDED!!!) that a ‘national search’ for an anchor–one that went on for a couple years–yielded…Ed. Harding was quoted in the Globe as saying, ‘Whatever job I have, I’m grateful for.’ Well, since most anchors are mere steps away from sweeping floors at Taco Bell if not for lucky breaks and/or nepotism, I guess that’s understandable.

Personally, I’ve always liked Ed both as a news anchor and a sports reporter. Then again, I was an still am a big Ted Sirandis fan and not every one was sad to see him leave WEEI (I mention Ted because Ed Harding used to be a frequent guest on his show). I’ve watched CH5 since I was a kid and always seem to turn back there when the biggest stories break. I’m curious if any one thinks David Brown as the next full-time morning/mid-day co-anchor, considering he’s received a lot of fill-in work in the anchor chair. I wonder if CH5 is delaying the changes until the end of next month because they are expecting JC Monaghan to resume a relatively full work schedule (allowing David Brown to freely transition)?

I don’t know if I love David as an anchor. It has nothing to do with his talent, but mentally, every time I see him I see him as a weatherman, not reporter.

Good luck for Ed. I find David Brown annoying when he does the news, everytime there is news about weather, he turns into a weather man and always try to get the last word in.

Yes, David is annoying when trying to fit his ‘square peg’ body with ’round hole’ clothes. He also should introduce his own line of bobble-head dolls…the guy bounces his head around like he ‘has something.’ In general, I think it’s the ‘Look-at-ME! I’m a NEWS ANCHOR!’ syndrome kicking in whenever a Liberal Global Warming Evangelist (sorry…weatherman) steps in to be an anchor.

[...] on the weekday EyeOpener later this month. Ed has been promoted to the early evening newscasts (story), so the co-anchor position in the morning was left free. David will co-anchor with Heather Unruh. [...]

Oh, I think that Anthony Everett and David Brown are smart, professional and have great personalities. We can’t stand Ed because of the way he leers at his female colleauges – and the manner in which he always tries to be so sensitive, insightful and cutesy… – I always watched Anthony if I got home on time for the early news and if not, I swtiched over to Jack Williams on channel 4. I Come to think of it, I have never gotten over Chet not being there, give me more guys like Anthony, Chet, Peter, and Jack!!!

I enjoy listening to Channel 5,however, Sheba Russell needs to be more natural. Her personality
is blah,as is her reporting style. Whenever she appears we change to another station. We enjoy Heather Unruh, JC, Liz,please inform us on the Kelly Tuthill situation.Ed Harding is ANNOYING.

Kelly is doing well last I heard. If anything major changes I will pass it along.
